- The new Mahindra Thar will be offered in two body-styles - hardtop and soft top.
- It is likely to get a 2.0-litre diesel engine and a new gearbox.
- There's also speculation about an automatic transmission making its way into the new Mahindra Thar.
The new-generation Mahindra Thar was spotted testing in Pune in production form. The new set of spy shots reveal the fascia and profile of the production-spec compact off-road SUV. The SUV sports production-spec front and rear bumpers. However, the indicators and taillights aren't production-ready and seem to have been borrowed from the current-gen model. The next-generation Thar is expected to be launched in India in early 2020.
Besides the factory-fitted hardtop variant, Mahindra will also offer a soft-top version of the new Thar as an option. Underpinning the next-generation Mahindra Thar will be an all-new ladder-on-frame platform, and the SUV is expected to feature larger dimensions, compared to the outgoing model.
Inside, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will sport an all-new cabin, a redesigned dashboard, new front seats and front-facing rear seats with three-point seat belts. Higher variants are expected to feature a touchscreen infotainment system and a multi-function steering wheel.
Powering the new Mahindra Thar will most likely be an all-new 2.0-litre diesel motor that is expected to make a maximum of 140bhp. It will be mated to a low-range gearbox, while a 4x4 drive-train is a given. Spy shots have also revealed that the new Thar might also be offered with an automatic transmission. The 2020 Thar will rival against the Force Gurkha Xtreme and is expected to be priced between Rs 7-11 lakhs (ex-showroom).
