After much fanfare, the next-generation Mahindra Scorpio was finally uncovered recently through a major leak and to be honest; we weren’t really impressed with what Mahindra has done to the exterior design. However, now that the pictures of the interior have been leaked, there is some respite for the fans of this popular SUV which has been around for over a decade.
As the spy shots reveal, Mahindra clearly has aimed to make the new Scorpio more appealing to a wider range of buyers, and this includes the D-segment car buyers. The new interior takes heavy inspiration from the XUV 500 and as a result, looks more premium than ever. Design bits like the steering wheel and controls for the air conditioners are straight off the XUV 500. Also, the dual tone dashboard is more angular in the way it has been layered and features a lot of premium touches.
Standard equipment on the range-topping model seen here includes a touch screen infotainment system, automatic climate control and steering mounted controls. Thankfully, Mahindra has repositioned the power window switches from bottom of the centre console to the doors; something that has always been more convenient.
While there is no official information about the engine specifications from Mahindra yet, both the existing 2.5-litre, 75bhp engine and the 2.2-litre mHawk 120bhp units are expected to be carried over. Though what we do know is that this new model will be offered in a total of five variants - S2, S4, S6, S8 and S10.
The new Scorpio will officially go on sale on September 25. Mahindra has already started taking bookings for it and if sources are to be believed, the brand has already built an inventory of 5,000 units before the launch. Stay tuned for all the updates on the new Scorpio as we get nearer to the launch date.
