The next-gen Jeep Compass is inching closer to production as the vehicle has been caught on test yet again, this time in China. Set to slot in between the Renegade and Cherokee, the heavily disguised model appears to be influenced by the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee.
The new Compass is expected to ride on an extended version of the Small Wide platform that underpins the Fiat 500X and the Jeep Renegade. For the Chinese market, this upcoming model will be powered by a Chrysler 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as well as a Fiat-derived 2-litre turbo four-cylinder unit.
Jeep will first unveil the new Compass later this year in Brazil as the country is home to the first plant that will build the crossover. Its China-debut, meanwhile, will happen at the Guangzhou Auto Show in December. The car will be built locally by the Guangzhou-Fiat joint venture.
