Jeep has officially launched the much-awaited Compass in China. The compact crossover, in fact, has been introduced in the market before anywhere else. Fiat is looking to produce this model here in India at FCA’s Ranjangaon plant from mid-2017 onwards.
Fiat has launched the Compass in China in two variants – the 200T and the 200TS Trailhawk. The former is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit with 165bhp and 250nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT.
The 200TS Trailhawk, on the other hand, gets a 2.4 litre naturally aspirated motor with 175bhp and 228nm of torque. It is paired to a 9-speed automatic which sends power to all four wheels.
China already is a big market for crossovers. When launched, the new Compass will go up against the likes of Ford Kuga, Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. As for the Indian market, it will be Fiat and Jeep’s first locally produced model and will be priced in the range of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.
