Hyundai Xcent, a popular name in the compact sedan space is further set to strengthen its position in the Indian market with the launch of the new Xcent tomorrow. This time around, along with fresh cosmetic upgrades, the vehicle will also receive an updated diesel engine. Unlike the current generation model which is available in four trims, the new model will be offered in five variants - E, E+ (new trim), S, SX, SX (O).
Under the hood, the new Hyundai Xcent will continue to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which generates 82bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. The diesel version will now be powered by a 1.2-litre engine that generates around 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a five speed manual transmission, while the petrol will be offered with an optional four-speed automatic gearbox.
On the style aspect, the new Hyundai Xcent features a six-slat hexagonal chrome grille along with smoked sweptback headlamps, LED DRLs and a new bumper. The vehicle will also get new fog lamps along with body coloured door handles as part of its fresh upgrade. The interior in the top spec trim will be offered with a new seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android auto with navigation, and multi-function steering wheel. On the safety aspect, the current generation model gets driver airbag and ABS as standard, while the upcoming model will be offered with dual front airbags along with alternator management system (AMS) as standard.
The new Xcent will help Hyundai strengthen its foothold in the Indian market. The fresh set of upgrades and early launch ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire facelift will help Hyundai earn more customers. In comparison to Tata Tigor, the diesel engine in the new Xcent is expected to generate better torque output, while additionally offering a larger infotainment system. Though pricing aspect is not known for now, we believe it might be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh - Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
