The market hasn’t exactly been great for Hyundai’s high-end models in the past, especially in the SUV segment but if the recent reports are to be believed, the new Santa Fe could well be on its way to change the perception of a majority of Indian car buyers and prove that the Korean carmaker, indeed, is good at making high-end luxury vehicles.
Launched at the 2014 Auto Expo in February last month, the new Santa Fe has reportedly bagged 559 bookings and 5,255 inquiries for Hyundai India. Now the numbers may seem petty but consider the vehicle’s price tag and the segment at which it is catering to, it’s a pretty big deal.
The report further states that the 2WD variant of the SUV has a waiting period of one month. The 4WD variant (only offered with an AT), on the other hand, has a two month waiting time.
Priced between Rs 26.3 lakh to 29.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Santa Fe mainly competes with the Toyota Fortuner. However, it also faces competition in some ways from the Audi Q3. Neither too big, nor too small, the Santa Fe is somewhere in the between. The vehicle, in typical Hyundai fashion, is grilled with features, comes with a powerful diesel engine and is mighty comfortable too. And with the backing of Hyundai’s trusted after-sales service network, it shouldn’t be hard for the Santa Fe to do well in the high-end segment.
