A mysterious new test mule of the Hyundai Elite i20 has been spotted testing in Europe. As the i20 is still a new car in Europe, we think that this test mule might be a prototype of the upcoming performance-oriented version of the premium hatchback, expected to be christened i20 Turbo.
While it was expected that the i20 Turbo will be a two-door model, this specific test mule has retained the two doors from the regular hatchback. The front of the test sported black camouflage, which hints that the i20 Turbo will get a revised front bumper and a splitter to improve the hatchback’s aerodynamics. The car seems to be a lot lower that the regular i20, though this can also be a result of the additional weights placed inside the car for load testing. Powering the i20 Turbo will be the four-cylinder petrol unit from the Veloster hot hatch, which will be mated to a twin-clutch transmission.
The i20 Turbo will be the sportiest version of the i20, until the new N-model is introduced a few months down the line. Though the chances of the i20 Turbo being launched in India are very bleak, we feel that this car would bring in a much-needed wave of fresh air for the enthusiast audience in the country.
