Earlier in February, Honda launched the New City in India with more features and spec upgrades. The new model also gets a new top-end ‘ZX’ variant. Honda claims that the new model will continue to be the best selling model for the automaker. Supporting this claim is the fact that Honda has received over 25,000 bookings for the vehicle since its launch. Back in April, Honda Cars India reported domestic sales of 14,480 units, of which 5,948 units are accounted for the City alone.
Honda City, a key player in the premium sedan segment is available in petrol as well as diesel engine options. The vehicle is available in a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine options which generate 119bhp and 100bhp respectively. The petrol version is available in five-speed manual as well as CVT option, while the diesel version gets a six-speed manual transmission.
Reports indicate that the new top-spec ZX variant has generated a positive response given that more customers have opted for the same. Speaking of features in the new model, at the variant level, the new model gets electric sunroof, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic LED headlamps, fog lamps, daytime running lamps and LED inserts for the tail-lamps. The top-spec ZX variant additionally offers rain-sensing wipers, a boot lid spoiler, larger wheels and six airbags.
Overall, the Honda City sedan emerges as the second best only next to Maruti Suzuki’s Ciaz. In the last fiscal year, Maruti Ciaz sold 64,448 units as against the 57,984 units reported for the Honda City. Given the current rate of sales growth for the City, it would indeed be interesting to see if the Honda’s bestseller claims the top position in the segment this fiscal.
