Honda launched the new facelifted version of its compact sedan, the Amaze, yesterday at a starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The facelift is offered in new bluish titanium colour along with the standard six colour options. The new Amaze is offered in six petrol variants and four diesel variants.
There are no major mechanical upgrades. The new Amaze continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine that generates about 87bhp and 109Nm of torque, along with the diesel engine option using the 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit that generates 99bhp and 200Nm of torque. Apart from five-speed manual gearbox, the new model is also offered in CVT automatic in petrol guise. Features like power steering, front and rear power windows, air conditioner, heater and adjustable steering column are standard across the trims.
Honda Amaze E MT: The Amaze E petrol is offered as an entry level trim that comes with the five-speed manual transmission. Offered for Rs 5,29,900, the trim comes with features like central locking, glove compartment, digital odometer, adjustable headlight and chrome grill. The E diesel also carries the same features offered by its petrol counterpart, but additionally gets ABS and EBD. The diesel trim is offered for Rs 6,41,900.
Honda Amaze S MT; The Amaze S petrol features everything that is offered in E trim, while additionally offering features like the CD player, rear seat centre arm rest, rear seat headrest, 12V power outlet, multifunction steering and height adjustable driving seat. The trim also offers a power antennae and audio system remote control with Bluetooth connectivity and USB with AUX input. The Amaze S is offered for Rs 5,95,400. The diesel S trim gets ABS with EBD along with all the regular features offered on the petrol. The diesel is offered for Rs 7,29,900.
Honda Amaze S CVT: Automatic is only offered in the petrol trim. The Amaze S CVT gets all the features from the SX except for the retractable ORVMs with turn indicators and rear window defogger. The Amaze S CVT is offered for Rs 7,19,900.
Honda Amaze SX MT: The Amaze SX petrol gets all the features from the S trim while additionally offering features like ABS-EBD (for petrol), automatic climate control and air quality control. The SX trim also offers rear window defogger and retractable ORVMs with turn indicators. The SX trim petrol manual is offered for Rs 6,80,500, while the diesel version is offered for Rs 7,82,000.
Honda Amaze VX MT / CVT: The Honda Amaze VX Petrol is offered in five-speed manual transmission option while carrying forward all features from the SX trim. It additionally offers front fog lamps. The VX MT trim is offered for Rs 7,19,900. The diesel trim gets all the features from the petrol trim and is priced at Rs 8,19,900. The XV CVT petrol is offered for Rs 8,19,900.
It is unfortunate that Honda is not offering ABS-EBD on the base models, even as an option. Most of its competitors have already started doing that; Honda however will offer the same only from May. So if we have to suggest a petrol or even diesel variant at the moment, we are left with no choice but to suggest the SX variants for both the petrol and diesel, since only this trim and above have the basic safety features. Also, that means, the suggested CVT automatic variant will be the VX CVT, since the S CVT does not come with the airbags.
