The Toyota Avensis is a family car built by the Japanese manufacturer specifically for the European market. The car has been in production since 1997 and is in its third generation. The car received a heavy facelift back in 2015 and is now ready for an all-new generation. Here we have the first spy pictures of the Avensis is the station waggon guise, will arrive by the end of the year along with the sedan.
The next generation Avensis line-up will adhere to the new design language adapted by all Toyota vehicles these days. The Lexus-inspired X-motif has been hidden under the camouflage as the headlamps are currently a makeshift one. The overall styling will stay true to its subtle value of a family car yet will get some modern touches. The new Avensis will retain its dimension and measure 4.7metre in length and will be 1.8metre wide. With the extensive use of light weight material, Toyota will chip off a significant amount of weight from the new Avensis over the outgoing model.
Powering the new Avensis will be a new set of engines sourced by the collaboration with BMW. The current 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine will be replaced by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit which does duty in the new Mini range. The 2.0-litre four-pot petrol unit will make way for a smaller 1.6-litre turbocharged engine in different state of tunes. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a CVT.
Contrary to the previous reports of the Avensis to be discontinued owing to the poor sales and declining demand in various markets, Toyota still has faith left in this European product. The new Avensis range will be revealed later this year, expect to see the car at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
