As a customary ritual, Mercedes-Benz has dropped a teaser video of the upcoming new-gen CLS-Class ahead of its LA debut. The four-door coupe will enter into its third generation now. The teaser video reveals the characteristic swooping lines and some all-new elements such as the swanky new headlights.
The teaser video showcases the new diamond grille as seen on the smaller CLA. The headlamp design is fully revealed which is now triangular in shape with new lighting elements. These new lighting elements get adjusting projector units as well. The new shape of the headlights will be carried over in all the upcoming Three Pointed Stars such as the A-Class and the new-gen CLA.
The tail lights too are redesigned. The signature ‘star-dust’ motif is present along with a few LED elements. The alloys are also shown which seems to perfectly match the cheeky styling of the CLS. There are no interior shots in the teaser video, but the slight glimpse gives us an idea that the new CLS will come loaded with the large dual-screen infotainment system akin to the E- and S-Class. The rear seats can be seen with three-headrests which means Mercedes is aiming for the the CLS to be a proper five-seater.
Powering the new-gen CLS will be new straight-six petrol and diesel engines. The base variants will also come with four-pot turbocharged motors. The fire-breathing AMG variant is on the cards but that will come later. It would share its engine and market share with the upcoming all-new AMG GT Four-Door. However, a recent test mule was speculated to be running an inline-six with an electric motor which would turn into a CLS53 moniker. More details on it will be revealed soon.
The new-gen CLS will be showcased at the 2017 Los Angeles Motor Show which opens its gates on 30 November. The car will hit the road only in mid-2018. It will lock horns with the all-new BMW 6 Series GT and the recently-launched Audi A7 Sportback.
