The new Ford Endeavour has gone live on the American automaker’s Indian website hinting at its imminent arrival into the sub-continent. Our dealer sources revealed that bookings for the vehicle have not yet begun. We believe that Ford will focus its efforts on the SUV once it has launched the Figo hatchback during the festival season.
The new Ford Endeavour is based on the Ranger pickup truck and carries the new Ford octagonal grille albeit with a lot more chrome. Its high and the flared wheel arches give it a nice muscular stance. Inside, the cabin has been trimmed out in a combination of beige and light black and gets the American automaker’s later SYNC2 infotainment system, climate control and oodles of space, thanks to the 4.8-metre length and 2.85-metre wheelbase.
The SUV will be offered with two different diesel engines as well as transmission options. The new engines include a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel that produces 157bhp/385Nm as well as a 3.2-litre turbocharged five-cylinder mill that produces 197bhp/470Nm of torque. There are expected to be three versions where two will be 4X2 and one will be a 4X4 version. These mills will be offered with a six-speed AT. Currently, only the base 2.5-litre unit is offered with a five-speed MT while the higher spec 3.0-litre models are powered by a five-speed AT.
