The original Fiat 500, which was a revelation in small car design, was introduced in July 4, 1957, and exactly fifty years later, Fiat chose to celebrate that heritage by introducing the new 500.
It’s been eight years since the modern-day version of the 500 was introduced and with over 1.5 million units sold, Fiat has now introduced a comprehensive set of upgrades for the models. While there aren’t any significant changes in the overall design, Fiat has revised the head and taillight clusters as well as the chrome linings.
The engine line-up of the new 500 includes a 0.9-litre TwinAir engine (85bhp or 105bhp) and a 1.2-litre 69bhp unit. The car itself will be available in two body styles (hatchback and convertible) and three trim levels: Pop, Pop Star and Lounge. Fiat has revealed that all models have LED daytime running lights, seven airbags and a Uconnect infotainment system with six speakers as standard equipment.
The new 500 will go on sale across Europe starting September this year. While the Indian market will have to wait further long if Fiat India decides to bring it here. Instead, the brand currently is working on high power versions of the Punto and the Avventura which should be out soon.
