Now that the 650S is out in the supercar arena and putting smiles on the faces of everyone who’s driven it, McLaren seems to have put its focus on the smaller, lesser outrageous model which could be out sometime next year.
Codenamed P13, this new entry-level supercar is said to be inspired from the brand’s flagship model – the P1. Now, some fresh new info has emerged as McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt reportedly has revealed a few exciting details on what’s being touted as a direct rival to the iconic Porsche 911.
Speaking to one of UK’s biggest automotive websites PistonHeads, Flewitt has revealed that the P13 will cost around £120,000 (Rs 1.2 crore) and will basically serve as a slightly less high-tech version of the 650S. The model will use a modified version of the 650S’ carbon fibre tub which weighs in at just 75 kilograms. The mid-engine P13 is expected to powered by a reworked version of the 3.8-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 found in the 650S.
With their natural rivals coming in from Ferrari and Lamborghini, the CEO has revealed that McLaren has all eyes on Porsche as well, as a real challenger. "Porsche is the brand we have the most conquests from. People who know and understand Porsche can relate to what we do in terms of technology," Flewitt explained.
