New car launches in India in September 2024

The festive season is just around the corner and so are new car launches in the coming month. Be it SUVs or sedans, ICEs or EVs, mass market or luxury segment, we will witness one car in each of these segments arriving in September.

    Tata Curvv ICE

Tata Motors introduced the Curvv EV earlier this month, and will now be followed by the price reveal of the ICE-powered derivative on 2 September. The Curvv brand also marks the company’s new EV-first strategy, where it will launch the electric version followed by the respective ICE version.

Under the hood, the Curvv will be powered by 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, 1.2-litre TGDi turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engines. Transmission options will include six-speed manual and seven-speed DCA gearboxes across all motors. Notably, the Curvv will be the first car to have a diesel-DCT combo in the Indian market.

    Mercedes-Maybach EQS

5 September is when Mercedes-Benz India will launch the new EQS Maybach in the local market. Showcased for the first time in China last year, the new flagship electric SUV will be bathed in Maybach logos all around. There is a plethora of chrome inserts all around and large flashy alloy wheels.

The interior packs a familiar EQS SUV theme along with Maybach-specific inserts and graphics, MBUX tablet in the second row, and two 11.6-inch screens for the rear seat passengers. It is powered by a 108.4kWh battery pack with a dual motor setup sending power to all four wheels. The power output is rated at 658bhp and 950Nm of torque, with a claimed range of 600km on a single full charge.

    Hyundai Alcazar facelift

The facelifted Alcazar is halfway here as the Korean automaker has revealed the exterior design and commenced bookings of the updated three-row SUV for Rs. 25,000. The prices of the Mahindra XUV700, Kia Carens, and Tata Safari-rival will be out on 9 September.

Apart from changes to the exterior design, the 2024 Alcazar will also boast an updated feature list with the likes of two large screens, ADAS suite, new upholstery, and more. It will continue to source power from the same 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engines paired with six-speed manual, seven-speed DCT, and six-speed torque converter automatic units as the outgoing car.

    MG Windsor EV

The Windsor EV, which is essentially a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV sold in international markets, will be launched in the country on 11 September. Touted as a CUV by the brand that recently tied up with JSW, it will also be the first launch under the collaboration.

MG has teased the car on multiple occasions, revealing key features such as the LED light bars, panoramic sunroof, steering wheel, and a rear-seat package. Globally, the car is offered with two battery pack options, and it remains unknown which of these will make it to the India-spec car. We can expect a range of up to 460km on a single full charge.

    New Maruti Dzire

Short on the heels of the new Swift’s arrival in India will be the next-gen Dzire. This update will breath fresh air into the sub-four-metre sedan segment which also consists of the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze, and the Tata Tigor.

Previous sightings of the 2024 Dzire have confirmed an electric sunroof, new design in line with the updated Swift, and more. It will also source power from the fresh 1.2-litre, Z12E petrol engine that is good for 80bhp and 112Nm, sending power to the front wheels via five-speed manual and AMT units.

    Tata Nexon CNG

Tata is not yet done with its share of launches for the year. After the Curvv EV and ICE derivatives, the home-grown company will further diversify the Nexon range with the debut of the CNG version. Showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year, it will also be the first turbo-petrol-CNG offering in the Indian market.

Although the technical specifications remain unknown at the moment, it can be safe to assume that the power output will remain the same in petrol mode as the standard version. Featuring a dual CNG cylinder tank, it will arrive with manual and AMT transmissions in tow. Post launch, the car will have the widest powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and EV.
