After a fairly dry spell over the last two months, the month of August will bring along a range of launches across the board. The following month will be witness to budget cars as well as luxury ones. Let us take a look at all the cars set to arrive in August 2024.
The first launch of the month will be on the first day of the month. The new India-spec X-Trail, which was unveiled in July, can currently be booked for Rs. 1 lakh, and will be offered in a single, top-of-the-line variant.
Powering the 2024 X-Trail will be a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine paired with a mild-hybrid motor that sends power to the wheels via a CVT gearbox. The power output is rated at 161bhp and 300Nm. The carmaker claims a mileage of 13.7kmpl. We have already detailed the features of the new X-Trail, and they are available on our website.
Tata Curvv ICE
Among the multiple cars lined up to be introduced in the coming months from the Tata stable is the Curvv. Set to debut in the new coupe SUV segment, it will take on the likes of the Citroen Basalt. To be launched on 7 August alongside its ICE sibling, the car will get various segment-leading features, all of which we have detailed on our website.
Tata Motors is likely to plonk it with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. Transmission options will include six-speed manual and DCT units. Notably, the diesel variants could also get the DCT gearbox, which will make it a unique offering not just in the segment, but in the market too.
The Tata Curvv EV will set itself apart from the ICE sibling with a few visual changes and a revised feature list too. The car will come equipped with features including an ADAS suite, panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch touchscreen unit, touch-based buttons for AC controls, powered tailgate, and more.
According to our sources, the top-end Curvv EV will be propelled by a 55kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor that is claimed to return a range of 600km on a single full charge. The lower-spec variants could borrow the 40.5kWh unit from the Nexon EV.
New Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet
Mercedes-Benz will launch two new products in the Indian market on 8 August, 2024. One of the two cars, which will arrive via the CBU route, will be the all-new CLE Cabriolet. Set to become the first four-seat convertible car for the local market, it will be a part of the brand’s Top End Vehicle (TEV) portfolio.
The soft top of the convertible can be opened or closed in 20 seconds and up to speeds of 60kmph. Powering the model will be a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine with 375bhp and 500Nm of torque, sending power to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic Coupe facelift
The refreshed GLC is set to mark its arrival on Indian shores in the second week of August. Unveiled in September 2023, the GLC facelift, apart from changes to the interior and exterior, gets a downsized engine.
The 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine makes way for a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit with a mild-hybrid motor. The power output has been revised to 421bhp and 500Nm from the outgoing car’s 362bhp and 520Nm.
Shortly after pulling the covers off the Urus SE, this facelifted version of the brand’s sole SUV is set to be launched in India on 9 August. Apart from a cosmetic update, the folks at Sant'agata Bolognese have also made revisions to the powertrain and the mechanicals.
At the heart of the Urus SE will be a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine coupled with a 25.9kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor. The combined output stands at 800bhp and 950Nm of torque. Changes in terms of technical specs include an air suspension (now standard), electronic rear differential, electric torque vectoring system, and recalibrated drive modes.
Mahindra Thar Roxx
The price of one of the highly anticipated launches of the year, the Mahindra Thar five-door, now called the Thar Roxx, will be announced on 15 August. Set to rival the likes of the Maruti Jimny, the Thar Roxx will also compete against traditional mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, and more.
The 2024 Thar Roxx will boast multiple new features including a panoramic sunroof, fully digital instrument cluster, rear AC vents, ADAS suite, and ventilated front seats. We expect the car to be powered by the familiar 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines paired with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Citroen Basalt
Citroen will officially showcase the production-spec Basalt on 2 August, followed by its price reveal that could take place by the end of the month. Underpinned by the CMP modular platform, the coupe SUV is based on the C3 Aircross.
Notable features of the new Basalt will include split headlamps, sloping roofline, dual-tone alloy wheels, projector headlights, dual-tone interior theme, armrests for both rows, automatic climate control, digital instrument console, new floating touchscreen unit, and more. We expect the car to source power from a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine mated with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
