BMW is firing the starting gun on its forthcoming product offensive with a range of new models at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The brand, in fact, will showcase the all-new X3 crossover, M5 performance sedan and the 8 Series concept in Frankfurt.
Starting off with the gorgeous looking 8 Series, this concept is a new design study from BMW which will spawn the production 8 Series coupe in the coming years. The production will be based on the new CLAR platform which currently underpins the new 5 and 7 Series. The 8 Series will be a ‘driver’s car’, asserts the Munich-based carmaker. Under the hood it will have a 3-litre straight six or a 4.4-litre V8 from the new M5. Additionally there could also be a 6.6-litre V12 from the M760Li.
The new X3 is the third generation for BMW’s mid-size competitor and will take on the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q3 and the upcoming Volvo XC40. The engine list includes the usual range of diesel and petrol powertrains that are on offer with the current car. This includes a 2-litre diesel and petrol engine, of which the latter in the xDrive 20i trim will be launched in 2018.
Lastly, BMW will bring in the hugely anticipated latest-gen M5. Now in its sixth generation, the M5 is all-wheel drive for the first time since its inception in 1985. It is also the quickest and the most powerful M5 till date. While the M5 and the X3 will definitely be launched in the Indian market, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the 8 Series also coming to our shores, given the popularity of luxury tourers in the country.
