- The seventh-generation BMW 3 Series will be launched tomorrow
- Will be available with two engine options.
BMW India will launch the new 3 Series in the country tomorrow. This is the seventh-generation of the 3 Series sedan which is bigger, lighter and more feature-loaded than before. It will be offered with two engine options across three trim levels and is expected to be priced between Rs 45 – 55 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Codenamed G20, the new 3 is based on the same CLAR platform as the current 5 Series and the recently launched 7 Series facelift. Owing to the new platform, the executive sports sedan has grown in size while also being lighter than the model it replaces. In terms of design, the new headlamps are larger than before but have a well-integrated layout on the fascia. The bumper design – both fore and aft – vary according to the trim levels. The headlamp and taillamp clusters get new LED lighting signature and the characteristic kidney grille is bigger than before.
On the inside, the driver-focused cabin is everything that one may expected from a BMW. There’s more cabin space owing to increased dimensions even as the boot space, at 480 litres, remains the same as before. There’s a floating 8.8-inch infotainment system with latest iDrive system which can also be upgraded to a 10.25-inch unit. The all-digital instrument console is standard. Other highlights inside the cabin include leather-wrapped upholstery, three-zone climate control, rear camera with auto brake and reversing assist, rain-sensing wipers, to name a few.
Under the hood, a 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine are carried over from the previous model. The 330i turbo-petrol gets a four-cylinder with 258bhp while the 320d puts out 190bhp. Power is sent to rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic. When launched, the new 3 will continue to rival the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and Jaguar XE.
