The all new sixth generation BMW 3-Series will be launched in India on 27 July. This is probably the most important launch for BMW in India – we are saying ‘probably’ because, the German luxury car maker may also launch the X1 facelift during the festive season. The 2012 3-Series was launched in the European market some time back with a range of petrol and diesel variants and we were keen to find out which of these will be made available in India. Now, our friends at Team-Bhp have got the spec sheet of the 3-Series for India, revealing all the details of the new sedan.
It seems BMW will offer total of five variants of the 3-Series – four diesel variants and one petrol. As expected, all four diesel variants will be powered by 2.0-litre turbo mill churning out 184bhp and 380Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to eight-speed automatic transmission, also seen in the current 5-Series. The variants have features and optional upgrades and are named – 320d, 320d Sport Line, 320d Luxury Line and 320d Luxury Plus.
The new 3-Series petrol variant is the 328i Sport Line. Unlike the previous generation naturally aspirated engine, this gets a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol that will significantly up the performance and fuel economy. The 328i produces substantial 245bhp and 350Nm and the power is transferred to rear wheels through eight-speed sports automatic ZF transmission.
The new 3-Series is significantly bigger than the predecessor in size – specifically rear headroom and leg room. The new car looks more aggressive and sleeker on the lines of the 5-Series, and will give stiff competition to the recently launched Audi A4 facelift and the Mercedes C-Class.
Stay tuned, as we bring you more details of the 3-Series including the prices from the launch event on July 27.
