Those looking to get their hands on the upcoming new Audi R8 fitted specifically with the 4.2-litre V8 engine are in for a disappointment as Audi may never offer the supercar in such specification. According to a few reports, the 2016 R8 will drop the 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine that has been around since the inception of Audi’s mid-engined supercar.
The 2016 R8 could be made available only with the current 5.2-litre V10 engine albeit with a few upgrades. The Lamborghini-derived engine produces 600bhp in the new Huracan although Audi’s version is expected to develop close to 570bhp of power.
Later on in its lifecycle, the new R8 might be available as a plug-in hybrid possibly with the V8 engine although a new V6 power-plant could be in the offering too.
Audi will showcase the new R8 at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, before putting it on sale by the end of 2015.
