Audi is preparing to unveil the all-new R8 for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next month and although quite a lot of enthusiasts are waiting to listen to the V10 roar of this new model, chances are there could also be a smaller V6 engine in the pipeline.
Speaking to TopGear UK at a preview event in southern Spain, R8 technical lead Roland Schala has been reported saying, “The production line for this new car is so flexible so there's no problem to change it, to bring different models like a Superleggera, or GT, or Clubsport variants of the new R8."
Based on the same platform as the new Lamborghini Huracan, the new R8 will initially be offered with only a 5.2-litre, V10 engine in two power outputs: 540bhp and 610bhp. Commenting on future powertrain for the new R8, the technical head says, "V6 is a perfect engine for this kind of car. We have a lot of potential with the V6, from 400bhp upwards, so it's possible."
