Audi has announced that its newest crossover model – the Q2, is now on sale in the UK. Deliveries, on the other hand, will begin in November. The new Q2 is being offered in a total of three trim levels with prices starting at £20,230 (Rs 18.34 lakh).
Shown earlier this year in Geneva, the Q2 is based on the MQB platform and is being poised as a viable alternative to the entry-level premium sedans. It’s less than 4.2 metres in length and around 20cm shorter than the A3 sedan. Expectedly, the wheelbase is marginally less as well, though the Q2 will offer more headroom. The boot, at 405-litres, isn’t small either, plus it can be expanded with 40:20:40 split foldable second row.
The Q2 is available with an initial choice of two four-cylinder engines - the 1.6 TDI with 115bhp and the 1.4 TFSI with 150bhp. A 3-cylinder 1-litre TFSI with 115bhp and a 4-cylinder 2-litre TDI with 150bhp will be available later in the year. As an alternative to the 6-speed manual transmission, Audi will also offer the S tronic dual clutch transmission with seven speeds for all engines bar the 1-litre TFSI unit.
The Q2 is primarily targeted at younger buyers, just like the A3 sedan. Expect it to arrive in the Indian market sometime next year with prices starting at around Rs 25 lakh mark.
