Audi it seems is running final tests on the upcoming generation of the A8. The flagship luxury sedan will be unveiled in an all-new avatar next year to take on the latest-gen BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes S-Class.
The new A8 will be based on Audi’s MLB Evo platform which is an evolution of the MLB platform. The latter underpins the current A8 and several other Volkswagen Group models. The MLB Evo was first showcased in 2013 in Audi’s Sport quattro concept, and made its production debut in the new Q7.
The new A8, as a result, will have a lighter curb weight. Another key area of focus is the powertrain; the engine lineup should be similar to the current A8. That said, we should see a plug-in hybrid option and possibly even an all-electric A8.
Being the flagship offering, the new A8 is expected to feature a host of advanced infotainment features as well as new autonomous driving tech. Look for the new A8 to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017.
