The new Audi A4 will be launched for the Indian market on September 8. This is the second generation of the car for the Indian market and is based on parent company Volkswagen’s new MLBevo. We have already driven the car and you can read about it here.
This the fifth generation for the sedan globally and thanks to the new platform it has shed 95kgs but at the same time has become wider and longer making for a larger wheelbase. This has allowed for more space at the rear, a grouse that many had with the previous generation of the sedan. New features to this model include an updated MMI system, virtual cockpit and the famous matrix LED headlamps.
The 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque with power going to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch AT. There is also expected to be a diesel version which is will be the 2.0-litre TDI and is likely to be launched later in the year.
This new Audi A4 will go up against a contingent of vehicles like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Jaguar XF. It may be down on power as compared to the rest but has a large enough feature list to level the playing field. We expect Audi to price this car in the range of Rs 33 lakh to Rs 38 lakh, a move that will allow it to undercut the competition by a significant margin.
