With an aim to widen their customer base, luxury carmakers are venturing into segments where they never planned they could have presence in. Audi, for one, is all set to add the new A3 sedan to its premium range of models.
The A3 sedan is elegantly styled, yet in typically Audi manner, carries a discreet road presence. Inside, the cabin features a clutter free new design theme for the dashboard and loads of standard equipment. Audi has confirmed that the A3 in India will be offered with two engine options with the 35TDI and the 40TFSI variants, both new nomenclatures from the Ingolstadt based automaker.
The A3 35TDI will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four cylinder diesel engine producing 143bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The A3 40TFSI, on the other hand, will feature a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 180bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Both these engines will be paired with Audi’s S-tronic 7-speed gearbox.
As for performance and efficiency, the diesel powered A3 is claimed to hit 100kmph from standstill in 8.6 seconds, the petrol powered model does the same in 7.3 seconds. In terms of efficiency, the diesel model has an ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.38kmpl, while the petrol A3 claims 16.6kmpl.
Standard features on the upcoming A3 include Audi’s MMI infotainment system with 7-inch display, dual zone climate control, park assist with rear view camera, Milano leather upholstery, xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats and some more.
With the A3 sedan, Audi India is looking to capture a new generation of buyers who are on the lookout for a compact, high quality sedan. The brand hopes that its most affordable sedan for the Indian market will give it an edge over the competition.
