Launched in 2008, the MiTo is Alfa Romeo’s stylish-looking hatchback for the European markets. The vehicle is based on Fiat Punto’s platform and is now due for a significant makeover, as seen in these spy shots of a prototype model of the new MiTo undergoing testing.
Looking very different from the current MiTo, the front-end gets a more upright face and the V-shaped grille is bolder and wider than before. Look closely and you will notice that the headlights still get the chrome surrounds like in the current model.
While the interior design still remains undercover, the new MiTo is expected to come with features such as seven airbags, climate control, cruise control, electric door mirrors with demister, and a Uconnect 5-inch entertainment system with Bluetooth connectivity.
The new MiTo will continue to feature Alfa Romeo’s current range of 0.9-litre and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engines. The former generates 103bhp and 145Nm while the bigger 1.4-litre unit puts out either 133bhp or 167bhp, depending on the spec.
Like the current MiTo, this new model will compete with Audi A1, Mini Cooper and Citroen DS3 in Europe.
