The sporty Range Rover Sport can now be had with a new engine option for certain European markets. The SUV, in fact, has been introduced with a new 400bhp, in-line six cylinder 3-litre petrol engine.
Available initially on the special edition HST model, the all-new Ingenium engine is more responsive and better balanced than the previous V6 petrol. With 550Nm of torque, it powers the Range Rover Sport from 0-100kmph in 6.2 seconds and to a top speed of 225kmph. The six-cylinder unit includes an electric supercharger to deliver immediate response. Able to spool fully in just 0.5 seconds at up to 120,000rpm via a direct connection with the throttle, the new technology virtually eliminates turbo lag.
This is the latest step Land Rover has taken towards meeting its commitment of offering an electrified option on all new models from 2020. Designed and developed in-house, the engine will be manufactured in West Midlands, alongside the current four-cylinder petrol and diesel units. The six-cylinder engine is exclusive to HST model which gets a range of unique interior and exterior design enhancements.
