Maruti Suzuki has launched the new generation of their bestselling sedan, the Dzire, with a price tag beginning from Rs 5.45 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. This is the third update to their sub-four-metre compact sedan and is positioned between the Swift hatchback and the Baleno premium hatch, just like its predecessor. Deliveries will start today onwards and has already got eight weeks waiting period.
The new Dzire has been built ground-up and gets all new styling. Looks wise, the new car has retained the essence of the Swift. However, the fascia is now chiselled and gets the new horizontally slatted hexagonal grille with chrome lining and chrome accents on the air dam. The headlamps now have LED daytime running lamps embedded in it. The profile is also largely similar to the previous car with the signature flared wheel arches and all-new alloy wheels. The new Dzire is 40mm wider than the outgoing car, while the wheelbase is increased by 20mm. The boot space measures 378litres.
The interior, however, is all new and gets wooden inserts on the dashboard, steering and the door trims. The steering is all-new and Maruti Suzuki has opted for a flat bottom wheel for the first time in India. The head unit for the entertainment system has been sourced from the Baleno along with the automatic climate control unit that will be offered only with the higher trims. There are AC vents at the back for rear passengers. Electronic power steering, front power windows and internally adjustable wing mirrors will be standard on the Dzire along with dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD.
The Dzire will be offered in five trims – L, V, V+, Z and Z+ with two engine options each – petrol and diesel. The petrol engine is the same old 1.2-litre four cylinder unit that develops 84bhp of power and comes mated to a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT gearbox option. The diesel mill is also the tried and tested 1.3-litre turbocharged diesel Multijet engine that develops 74bhp of power and comes with the same gearbox options as the petrol. The automatic option is available on all trims except the base L trims.Maruti claims the fuel efficiency for the petrol variant to be at 22kmpl while the diesel is at 28.4kmpl.
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire will continue to compete against the Hyundai Xcent which was recently updated, as well as the Honda Amaze, the newly launched Tata Tigor and the Ford Aspire as well as the Volkswagen Ameo.
