Datsun claims to have sold close to 3,000 units of the Redigo in just about 23 days of the new hatchback being introduced in the Indian market. This goes on to support claims by the manufacturer that its new model is well accepted in the local market. In the past, the Go models have failed to evoke sufficient customer interest, but with Redigo sales picking up positively, it is expected to help the brand gain a good footing in India.
The Redigo’s impressive sales number has been a major contributor to the 188 per cent overall increase in sales witnessed by the company in the same period last year. Speaking about Redigo’s success, ArunMalhotra, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. said, “This unprecedented growth of the Datsun brand is due to the phenomenal response Datsun Redigo is getting from people across the country. These are exciting times for Datsun and we look forward to delivering more cars to our customers.” Along with the new age styling cues, the company claims that the Redigo also offers best-in-segment ground clearance and roominess.
The Datsun Redigo comes with a 0.8-litre three-cylinder i-SAT (Intelligent Spark Automated Technology) engine which generates 53bhp of power at 5678rpm and 72Nm of torque at 4386rpm. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission the vehicle is capable of achieving a top speed of 140kmph, while it claims of doing a 0-100kmph in about 15.9 seconds. The DatsunRedigo claims to return a fuel efficiency figure of 25.17kmpl.
The company offers two year/unlimited kilometres standard warranty for the Redigo. It also comes with an optional warranty for two or three years/unlimited kilometreswith free roadside assistance. This gives Redigo owners the option of up to five years/unlimited kilometres warranty coverage. The new model has been launched in India at a starting price tag of Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
