Tata Nano, the car that has been making news ever since it made appearance in the previously held Auto Expo, will finally roll out of the Sanand factory in Gujarat. Tata had to shift ground from Singur in West Bengal because of farmer strikes and currently the car is being manufactured at its makeshift plant in Pantnagar in Uttarakhand.
The Sanand plant has a capacity to roll out 5,00,000 Nanos a year but in the initial phase the company will be producing only 2,50,000 cars and will attain full capacity in a phased manner.
It is being said that the first car will roll out on May 1st coinciding with the golden jubilee of Gujarat, which came into being on May 1, 1960.
The 1-lakh car has been making headlines since its launch for various reasons; one of them being the consistent performance of the vehicle and for which CarWale Editorial Team had undertaken an All India Run (more than 8000kms) with the car and came out satisfied with the performance of the car.
There are currently 25,000 Nanos running across the country, 1/8th of the bookings registered. Tata is expected to complete the delivery by end of 2010.
