The Tata Nano is being refreshed to realise its full potential confirmed Ratan Tata. He attributed many factors like plant transfers, certain issues with dealerships and insufficient publicity as well as advertising for loss of momentum in the sales of the people’s car. "We were not prepared to market the car as we should have. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that momentum got lost," he said.
The Tata Nano’s launch had mainly been delayed by over a year due to the plant being shifted from Singur in West Bengal to a site in Gujarat after protests by local farmers and residents over the land acquisition process. Other factors included the price, which was to be Rs one lakh but ultimately crossed that amount significantly when the Nano was launched.
Ratan said it had been four years since the Nano was launched and that it was time to refresh the vehicle. He added that they will address all the issues that the car currently faces before launching the facelifted version. Ratan Tata however, did not specify a date for when the refreshed Nano would be launched.
This means that we can expect the new model to be offered with both the diesel and CNG mills as well as small tweaks like an openable boot. It is also likely to have most of the features that were offered with Nano special edition like glove boxes and music system as optional extras.
