The Government of Maharashtra has waived off the toll on the Mumbai-Pune expressway from September 2 – 4 for travellers from Mumbai and Thane to the Konkan region. The decision has been made to facilitate travellers who visit their hometown in Konkan for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
The process to avail the toll tax exemption benefit is pretty simple, Konkan travellers from Mumbai and Thane will have to visit their nearest RTO office or Traffic Police office to get a pass. The officials will hand over the pass only when the motorist gives details like residential address, vehicle registration number, address of place they intend on visiting in Konkan and mobile number. The decision was taken post a meeting at the Public Works Department minister, Eknath Shinde’s office.
The festival is a vital part of local tradition, the move is indeed welcomed by travellers who intend to visit their hometown in the Konkan for the festive period. Moreover, the decision will also help motorists who have been affected by the recent bridge collapse at Mahad on the Mumbai-Goa highway and it will also help ease the congestion which is very much expected on the weekend before the festive days.
