Volkswagen has just unleashed the most potent version of the Tiguan yet. Making more power than even the current gen Golf GTI, the powerful crossover is now on sale in the UK. It features a new 240bhp bi-turbo diesel, offering 30bhp more than the previous most powerful Tiguan 2.0 TSI.
The bi-turbo engine is similar to that offered in the current Passat and boasts a high-performance cylinder head and two-stage turbo charger. The injection pressure is a mighty 2,500 bar and the engine is capable of generating up to 120bhp per litre.
Thanks to four-wheel drive traction, this new version of the Tiguan is capable of hitting 0-100kmph in just 6.5 seconds. Besides this, the most powerful of the Tiguan’s three petrol engines is now also on sale in the UK. The 2.0 TSI 180bhp is available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmission. It is also offered as standard with four-wheel drive.
Both the new Tiguan engines are exclusively offered with the range-topping SEL or R-Line trims. The Tiguan SEL packs in navigation, an eight-inch colour touch-screen system, adaptive cruise control and lots more. Meanwhile for R-Line, the car features unique styling cues inside and out. A roof spoiler is joined by a rear diffuser and a front air intake to highlight the kerb appeal of the car. The ‘Suzuka’ alloy wheels measure 20-inches and the bumper design is unique as well.
The Tiguan, as we know, is headed for the Indian market. Having showcased it at the Auto Expo, VW India is now preparing to officially launch it in the burgeoning premium crossover segment.
