We had reported in May that Mahindra is likely to launch a lower spec W4 variant of the XUV500 in a bid to increase the volumes of its flagship SUV. Now Indianautosblog has revealed what is believed to be the specifications and feature list of the upcoming XUV500 W4 variant. It retains the same engine and underpinnings but loses a significant amount of features in a bid to reduce the price of the vehicle.
On the outside, the W4 variant will not have fog lamps, twin exhausts and roof rails. The W4 XUV500 variant, in terms of features, will not get the DVD player; touch screen display, tyre pressure sensors, park assist, and rain sensing wipers as well as automatic headlamps.
It also does not get a telescopic steering wheel, climate control, automatic OVRMs, cruise control, puddle lamps, door ajar sensor and steering mounted audio controls. Mahindra has retained the ABS with EBD and dual airbags but removed ESP, hill hold as well as hill descent control.
In terms of engines, the W4 variant (thankfully) will retain the 2.2-litre diesel mill that produces 140bhp and 330Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
We expect that with all these features dropped from the list, the Indian SUV major will price the W4 variant in the region of Rs 9-10 lakh (ex-showroom).
