Edit: Tata Nano Twist with power steering launched for Rs 2.36 lakh
The Tata Nano received a facelift last year and is now back in the news as it gets a power steering system. Dubbed the Nano Twist, it is expected to be launched on January 13 and will be priced Rs 15,000 more than the CX and LX variant.
A report from Autocar India suggests that the electric power steering unit, for the Nano, is being specially developed by ZF Friedrichshafen. The unit is believed to be using a brushless motor and will feature something the Indian automaker has termed ‘Active Return’, a unique feature for a vehicle in this segment. However, Tata is believed to have kept the steering ratio unchanged.
The Nano Twist is also expected to get a revised instrument cluster which will now feature an LED fuel and temperature gauge as well as an interface for the power steering system. Overall, the car is not expected to change majorly and is likely to feature only Twist badges to differentiate it from the standard vehicle. It is also expected to get a new shade which will be called Damson Purple.
On a related note, a Tata Nano test vehicle was spotted on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. We noticed that the car was travelling quite fast and that it had a distinct petrol engine sound. We believe that this is a special version sporting the 1.2-litre petrol unit from the Indica. The pictures also indicate a slightly different rear end as compared to the standard car.
