More details on the Jaguar XE, which is scheduled to be unveiled to be later this year, has been revealed. The BMW 3 Series rival from the British automaker will get a semi notchback design which is characterised by a stubby boot and long hood.
A report from Auto Express suggests that while the car resembles the XF, the company hopes that it will stand out on its own yet retain the company identity. It appears that XE has picked up its side and rear profile from the much sportier F-Type thanks to the lines on the side as well as the dual exhaust pipes. The company has already released two official images of the XE and these are in addition to the plethora of spy pictures of the car testing in Europe.
We already know that the Jaguar XE will be underpinned by aluminium architecture and will be powered by a new set of petrol and diesel mills in the range of 1.8-litre to 2.5-litres under the new Ingenium family of engines. There will also be a hot version called the XER-S which will be powered by the F-Type’s 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine. The gearbox is expected to be the ZF eight-speed and nine-speed units that will send power to the rear wheels or to all four wheels (via an AWD system).
It is expected to get interiors similar to that of the XF and the XJ but some of the features will be omitted or reduced. However, the report says that this car will debut a new infotainment system which the British automaker is currently working on. This system is expected to find its way into the British automaker’s other vehicles too.
