Toyota had previewed the next generation Corolla through its Furia design concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January. It then made an announcement that it would unveil the car before the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. Car and Driver has now been able to get some more information about the car via a Toyota dealer in the state of Kansas, USA who accidentally posted the information on their site but quickly remove it later. The report suggests that the 2014 Corolla will feature many parts from the Furia along with some design cues from the bigger Camry sedan.
While the design is expected to become modern, most likely in a bid to make the car appealing to younger buyers, the engine line up and most of the underpinnings are all expected to remain the same as the current car. However, Toyota is now likely to introduce an upgrade to VVT-i system and introduce a CVT automatic gearbox for the higher trim levels. Also included in the changes is new material for the upholstery and push button start.
Toyota had announced last year that it would concentrate on developing the Etios range for the Indian market till 2015. It is likely that they will bring the new Corolla here in early 2015 albeit with a few omissions from the American-spec version to keep the costs down.
