Volkswagen is developing an all-new generation of its flagship SUV Touareg since the current model has been in the market for quite some time. The upcoming model will be based on VW’s MLB platform and will get a host of new technologies that will help it compete with similarly sized offerings from BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
This new generation Touareg is influenced by the T-Prime concept showcased at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. The headlights seem sleeker and the grille with the side air vents appears to remain true to the one on the T-Prime concept. The side profile is similar to the current Touareg but then again at the rear, you will notice the new design of the taillights and the T-Prime styled tailgate. The slightly sloping roofline differentiates the Touareg from the other forthcoming larger crossover, the Atlas.
The new Touareg will be based on Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform and will be lighter than the outgoing model. Volkswagen would bring the new Touareg with V6 TDI engines followed by a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new Touareg is expected to be revealed this year, followed by launch sometime next year.
