The next generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The current car has been around for nearly 13 years now and is starting to get long in the tooth compared to the competition. The new car will retain the same size but thanks to the new platform will be over 40kgs lighter compared to the current model.
Once again sources have indicated that the new car will be offered with multiple engine options and this list includes the BoosterJet engine as well as the latest generation of the K-Series 1.2-litre engine. In case of the latter, the standard vehicle gets a naturally aspirated unit producing 91bhp while the RS model will get a turbocharged unit producing around 100bhp. Gearbox options are expected to include a CVT and a five-speed manual.
The photo in question is much close to the renderings and includes things like projector headlamps, LED DRLs and an aggressive fascia. The roofline has been lowered and tapers towards the rear to give the car a sporty profile. It also suggests that Suzuki is bringing back a shade of electric blue that was seen only on the first-gen India spec model.
This is a very important car for Suzuki in the Indian market as it has achieved maximum success here and will be a crucial part of the Indo-Japanese automaker’s efforts to strengthen its future lineup. The Indian market, in addition to the petrol options, will also get the car with the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel. What is more, we believe that they will first launch the car here before it is offered in Europe and other parts of Asia.
