Mahindra and Mahindra issued a statement acknowledging the Supreme Court’s order to ban SUVs and private cars with 2.0-litre engines or more.
M&M admitted that the SC’s order today affects the sales of some of the company’s products in the NCR. The vehicles affected represent about two per cent of the company’s total monthly sales. The only vehicles in the Mahindra stable that have an engine smaller than 2.0-litre is the Quanto, TUV300, Verito and the Verito Vibe . The Bolero, Scorpio, Getaway, Rexton, Thar, XUV500 and Xylo will be affected by the SC’s ban.
Company officials added that they understand the seriousness posed by the air quality in Delhi and also the need for immediate action to protect the environment. M&M added that the SC has ordered many actions today, including the ban on registration of diesel SUVs and private cars of 2.0-litre or more in the NCR till 31 March, 2016. The company hopes that these actions will lead to cleaning the polluted air in Delhi.
M&M anticipates that the judiciary will take a look at the impact of these measures at the end of the interim period on 31 March, 2016. The company believes that the SC will take a holistic view on improving the air quality of Delhi, taking into account the overall impact of each action.
