Mitsubishi has plans to offer only SUVs in its lineup and has even announced the production of the iconic Lancer sedan will end in August. In view of this changed philosophy it will now debut a compact SUV that will initiate a new generation of Mitsubishi vehicles and will make its global debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
In the minimally highlighted teaser, the coupe-like SUV is revealed to be wearing a fascia inspired by the new generation Outlander. It will slot in between the ASX and the Outlander, says the car maker, as it intends to attract a wider audience with its SUVs. When given a detailed look, the upcoming SUV bears resemblance to the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II Concept showcased back in 2015. The rear-view mirrors are positioned on the doors rather than the A-pillar to lend a sizeable appearance to the car. So the new coupe-SUV will remain true to the concept and have a raked roofline ending in a tall and haunch silhouette. The projector headlamps with LED DRLs with double slat grille will adorn the imposing front.
No powertrain details have been disclosed of this yet-to-be-named SUV. There are rumours that this new car will revive the ‘Eclipse’ moniker which was dropped back in 2011 by Mitsubishi. Guess we’ll have to wait until March 7, for further details on the Mitsubishi’s imminent SUV.
