According to a source Mitsubishi will launch a compact sedan, based on a Nissan or a Renault vehicle, to replace the Lancer. Rumours of this development have emerged after a year since Mitsubishi and Renault-Nissan announced their alliance to share technology, products and manufacturing facilities.
The source further mentions that the company is undecided on whether the new car will be based on a Renault or Nissan. It seems like even the location for production hasn’t been finalised yet. Mitsubishi had announced that the new compact sedan will be a global model and might be sold in Europe as well.
Mitsubishi might also be working on a Renault Latitude-based mid-size sedan for the US markets. This car might go on sale by 2017 and is rumoured to be assembled by Renault-Samsung in South Korea.
There is a possibility that this new compact sedan from Mitsubishi might be assembled in India. The Lancer did well when launched; unfortunately Mitsubishi’s alliance with HM didn’t take them far. This time they might want to have another go at the Indian market with the Lancer’s replacementwith Renault-Nissan on their side. However, we are not sure if Mitsubishi might launch this vehicle in India and if at all they choose to make it here, it might be only for exports.
