Mitsubishi has said that it will now focus only on selling SUVs in the Indian market and will gradually withdraw from the sedan segment. According to a Financial Express report, the company is taking the step as it feels that high-end SUV market which is a “sell in lesser numbers but at a higher price” would be more suited towards its current setup.
“The company will focus on SUVs, which constitute our strength, for the next few years. Pajero Sport has been especially accepted very well worldwide. Once we establish a strong foundation through SUVs, we will move on to other segments such as sedans and compact cars,” said a Hindustan Motors (HM) spokesperson in this regard.
This development has happened just a short while after Mitsubishi announced that it was not bringing the Mirage hatchback to India as well as the withdrawal of the Lancer sedan. It also means that Japanese automaker will end sales of the Cedia, which despite being a good car is still way behind its competition on many fronts.
