Mitsubishi India has listed the new generation Outlander SUV on their official Indian website. The Japanese carmaker has stated a ‘coming soon’ on the website, hinting at a prominent Indian debut. When reintroduced in India, the Outlander will join the Montero and Pajero Sport in Mitsubishi’s Indian portfolio.
The Outlander is in its third generation now. It received a major update in 2015 at the New York International Auto Show. The 2016 model year Outlander debuted the new “Dynamic Shield” design philosophy that will be seen on all the future vehicles from the Japanese carmaker. The off-roader is a lot sharper and aerodynamic as compared to the older model. According to Mitsubishi, the prominent chrome-laden grille is aerodynamic which reduces the drag coefficient by seven per cent. The revised headlights are now sharper and include LED DRLs with the option of full LED headlamps.
On the insides, Mitsubishi has added a bit more refinement to the cabin. The Outlander will be laden with features like leather upholstery, dual zone climate control, 710W Rockford Fosgate Premium sound system, push button start, rain sensing wipers, and electric sunroof. The SUV will pack seven airbags, ABS with EBD and auto headlamps as a standard fitment.
The new Outlander will be powered by the latest iteration of the MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing and Electronic Control system) gasoline engine. It would either be a 2.0-litre or a 2.4-litre four cylinder motor with an output of around 140-170bhp. The transmission would be a six-speed CVT with paddle shifters. The 4WD system will be standard with an ECO mode.
Once introduced in India, the Outlander will lock horns with the likes of the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tuscon and the newly introduced Jeep Compass. The return of the SUV with a fresh appeal could help the carmaker garner some positive sales figures in the country. Expected pricing for the new Outlander is between Rs 18-23 lakhs.
