Mitsubishi is popular for its SUV inspired MPVs which are capable of exceeding the limits to the point where most mini-vans give up. Recent spy shots of the newest three row MPV from the Japanese manufacturer have surfaced online and the spotted car is expected to be dubbed as the ‘Expander’.
Showcased earlier as the ‘XM concept car’, the spotted MPV stays faithful to the design. The images display high-mounted headlights, fog lamps, as well as the squared-off fenders in the front. Side profile displays the large wing mirror, evident shoulder lines and 16 inch alloy wheels. The rear end is styled to be futuristic and the MPV sports high-mount tail lamps and an upswept bumper.
Inside the MPV is a two-tone beige and black dashboard and it has a faux wood insert to give the cabin a premium look. The touch screen infotainment system takes the centre stage and under it are the conventional knobs for the climate control system.
Currently, there is only one engine option - the 1.5-litre petrol variant. However, it will come with a choice of a five speed manual or a four speed automatic gearbox. The state of tune for the engine will differ according to the market requirements.
The official prices have not been released. However, the local reports say that the pricing will range from Rp.189 million (Rs 9,03,500) to Rp.246 million (Rs 11,76,000). It is anticipated that Mitsubishi will get the Expander to the Indian market with an expectation to turn their fortune. If launched here, the Expander will take on the likes of Renault Lodgy and the lower trims of the Toyota Innova Crysta.
