The 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible will be launched in India tomorrow at an event in Goa. It is expected to be priced at Rs 35-38 lakh and will be brought through the CBU route (Completely Built-up Unit).
It will be offered in both petrol and diesel powertrains. The petrol version might be powered by the 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine that churns out 133.9bhp of power while the oil-burner might get a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel motor capable of producing 115.9bhp of power. All these engines will come paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible's main USP is the soft top that can open and shut up in speeds of up to 30kmph in just 18seconds. The three-door soft top convertible carries forward the retro classic stance of the Minis. In terms of external appearance, it sports round headlamps with LED DRLs, a signature chrome grille and chrome embellishments on tail lamps. The interior of the car will be adorned in cloth and leather combination. The feature-rich cabin will boast of a host of passenger convenience and safety features.
Built on a new UKL platform, the new Cooper convertible is bigger in size than its predecessor. It is 3,821mm long, 1,727mm wide and 1,415mm tall. The manufacturer has also extended the wheelbase by 28mm and the front and rear track are wider by 42mm and 34mm respectively. However, the overall weight of the car has gone up by 120 kg due to the rise in the chassis strength.
The Mini Cooper Convertible doesn't have a direct competitor in the Indian market yet. It will cater to the niche segment of buyers in our country.
