British premium automaker Mini’s highlight for the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show comes in the form of the latest-generation Convertible model. Fresh for 2016 and with several refinement improvements over its predecessor, the new Mini Convertible is set to go on sale in the UK from March next year.
As one would expect, the new Mini Convertible features a new fully electric roof that is claimed to be quieter than the previous model. It also gets improved rollover protection system and more rear space than before.
Dimension wise, the new Mini Convertible is both longer and wider than the previous-gen model. The wheelbase is 28mm longer and the track width has also grown a further 42mm at the front and 34mm at the rear.
The larger footprint has improved interior space for all four seats although it’s safe to say that the rear bench is best reserved for kids over short trip.
In terms of engine options, the new Mini Convertible can be had with either 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol, 2-litre four-cylinder petrol or the 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine option. Power is directed to the front wheels with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard while a 6-speed Steptronic automatic unit can be had as an optional extra.
The new Mini Convertible will go on sale in Europe starting March 2016, followed by other markets later in the year. Given its fair enough popularity in the Indian market, we can expect Mini to bring the new Convertible to our shores by late next year.
