Mini may not be a big seller here in India; however, the brand has just posted its strongest quarter one sales figures in the UK since its launch in 2001. The BMW-owned premium automaker has sold 14,961 cars so far this year.
According to Mini, the driving force behind the high sales is the new hatch range, which has seen a 265 per cent increase in sales since 2014. The range includes the brand’s best-selling model, the 3-door hatch alongside the new 5-door hatch which, since its launch in October 2014, has opened up the range to a new set of buyers.
The 5-door hatch, in fact, is a big success as it has also resulted in a year-on-year increase in Mini fleet sales of 142 per cent. Also helping accelerate sales over the last two months is the bigger Countryman.
The Mini range in India consists of the 5-door hatch, the 3-door hatch, the convertible and the Countryman. While the latter has managed to sell in good numbers up till now, the new 5-door hatch is doing just as well.
