As part of the BMW press conference at the Auto Expo 2016, Mini also announced its plans for India this year. The iconic British carmaker will introduce the next generation Mini Convertible and the Mini Club before the end of this year.
Mini has updated its line up in the global markets with the next generation platform which offers more space and utility, while building on the same styling. The Mini three-door, five-door and the Cooper S based on this platform are already launched in India. The Mini Convertible will be launched in the first half of 2016. The car will get the new 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine powering the front wheels with the power output of 134bhp and 162Nm.
The Clubman will debut in India for the first time. In terms of proportions, this one is actually on par with the Mini Countryman. The bit that stands out the most in this version is that unlike the other it does not get an openable hatch. Instead, it has a split door to offer more utility. Even this will use the new 1.5-litre petrol engine with an output of 134bhp and 162Nm.
Both the Convertible and the Clubman will be imported in India as CBUs and will be available through all the brand showrooms in the country, after the launch.
