Mini is going to launch the new Cooper S in India tomorrow. The Cooper S is the souped up performance focussed version of the popular compact hatchback, and will be the sportiest Mini on sale in the country.
To set it apart from the standard variants, the Mini Cooper S gets several cosmetic updates like a redesigned black radiator grille with a honeycomb design, two large air intakes in the lower bumper, different alloys wheels and an air scoop on the bonnet. It also gets a slew of trademark red ‘S’ badges in the front, rear and on the side. The black roof and the flared wheel arches also complement the hot hatch’s low-slung stance.
The new Cooper S develops 192bhp and 280Nm of torque through a four-pot twin-turbocharged engine, which is mated to six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. To keep the power under the leash, Mini has equipped the Cooper S with an electronic differential. Despite the exceptional power figures, Mini claims that the new Cooper S will return 17kmpl over a combined cycle, thanks to better aero aids and other fuel saving measures.
We expect the new Mini Cooper S to be priced around the Rs 37 lakh mark. Being a niche vehicle, the Mini Cooper doesn’t face any real competition in the Indian market.
